The game has hundreds of options to choose from, including taunts, dances, and other event-themed options. Emotes are cosmetic upgrades and will not benefit the player in-game, however. But on some occasions, they have been used to unlock mission objectives.
Emotes simply give the player a new way to express themselves on the battlefield. They can be purchased in the shop or earned from each seasonal battle pass.
While there are hundreds of emotes, this list features some of the best and most popular emotes in the game today.
Laugh it Up
It wouldn’t be a competitive multiplayer game without a bit of competitive trolling. This emote is a fairly common sight when another player eliminates you. Before they gather your loot, your foes might use Laugh it Up to laugh about your downfall. What makes the emote great, however, is the fact that the donkey braying that plays instead of actual laughter says a bit more about the emote’s user than the player they defeated.
Boogie Down
This is a popular emote in Fortnite due to the fact that you can nab it for free! If you’ve enabled Two-Factor Authentication on your Epic Games account, you can do as the emote’s name suggests and Boogie Down whenever you’d like.
Rollie
It’s no surprise that TikTok dances have made their way into Fortnite, and the Rollie emote is a direct product of the popular mobile apps’ dancing trends. Every so often, it makes its way back into the daily shop, where it can be acquired for 500 V-Bucks. Set to the song “Rolex” by Ayo & Teo, this is an emote you’ll run into fairly often in pre-match lobbies.
Party Hips
This is one of the cheaper emotes on the list, and perhaps that’s why it’s such a common sight. For 200 V-Bucks, Party Hips can occasionally be purchased from the daily store. Not too steep a price at all to hear one of the game’s funkiest tunes on demand.
Stay Afloat
As part of a collaboration with Kid Laroi, the Stay Afloat emote reappears every so often for 500 V-Bucks in the daily store. When used, it causes your character to hang suspended in the air while Kid Laroi’s song “Stay” plays. As a traversal emote, you can float around to lazily drift wherever you please. If someone is far away enough that they can’t hear the music this emote creates, it’s actually kind of spooky.
Orange Justice
The Orange Justice is one of the most recognizable emotes in the game due to its music, accompanying dance, and origins. Sadly, the emote was only available for those who reached tier 26 of the season four battle pass. This doesn’t mean it’s not still one of the best emotes in the game, however. It’s a strong reminder that both Fortnite and the game’s community can have a lot of fun when working together. Orange Shirt Kid must be proud.
T Pose
Available on rotation in-store, the T Pose is one of the most well-known emotes in the game. The intended use for the emote was alongside the Hay Man and Straw Ops outfits, but it did not come as part of any set. Having the player’s character extend their arms on both sides while standing straight, creating the shape of a letter T, the pose refers to a default pose for characters in video games. For only 200 V-Bucks, the emote is worth adding to your collection.
Take the L
This iconic emote is the perfect way to taunt your enemy once you have defeated them. As part of one of the most popular emotes in the game, the intent is very straightforward. The player will form an L with their hand and dance around waving it in the air. This emote was first available in the season three battle pass for players who reached tier 31.
Dance Moves
No emote deserves a place on this list more than the original dance. The “default dance” has been a popular emote in the community since its release. It’s unclear why Dance Moves is so popular—whether it’s the catchy music or the Scrubs-inspired jigs. But there’s no denying it is one of the best emotes in the game today.
Last Forever
An Icon Series Emote, Last Forever occasionally pops up in the daily store and is purchasable for 500 V-Bucks. Interestingly, Ayo & Teo have two extremely popular emotes in Fortnite. Unlike Rollie, this one is, naturally, set to their song “Last Forever”. Additionally, there are actually two different versions of this one, and it’s even a synced emote, meaning a squad mate can join you in your dancing. No better way to win over a foe than asking them to dance, right?
Phone it in
Appearing in the shop for 800 V-Bucks, Phone it In is a musically inspired emote that sees the player pull out a saxophone and begin to play a tune. This emote found a place on the list because of the pleasant music and impressive look when using it in-game.
The Renegade
This rare emote reappears in the daily shop every so often, and it can be acquired for 500 V-Bucks. For those unaware, this dance got pretty popular on TikTok thanks to Jalaiah Harmon. Despite its popularity, it’s not a dance that too many players are happy to see popping up in pre-match lobbies all the time. There’s a slight stigma against TikTok dances in Fortnite, but if it’s a fun emote that you like to do then that’s all that matters.
There are hundreds of emotes within the game. With the game constantly releasing content, there will likely be many more iconic and spectacular emotes to collect coming in the future.
