Mayonnaise: This is the base of the entire recipe. Some people have noted that the breakfast sauce tasted more like a hollandaise sauce. And it should come as no surprise that both are very similar. I prefer mayonnaise for the base of this recipe as it's widely available. However, you could also experiment with hollandaise sauce.

Yellow Mustard: This gives the sauce that robust, zesty taste. Some people reported using honey mustard in this recipe for a subtly sweet flavor.

Steak Sauce: I use A1 steak sauce in the recipe, but feel free to use any brand.

Dried Dillweed: This gives the sauce a unique taste with its earthy, mildly sweet, and citrusy profile.

Cheddar Cheese Powder: This adds both color and taste to the recipe. You can usually find this in your grocery store's spice or popcorn aisle.

Optional ingredients

The original McDonald's recipe has a natural smoky flavor, extractives of turmeric, and "spices" in the list of ingredients. This copycat recipe includes turmeric, chili powder, and liquid smoke as optional ingredients. Based on personal taste, feel free to include or omit these.

Heather's helpful hints

Though you can enjoy the McDonald's Breakfast Sauce right away, I find it better to wait for a few hours to overnight to allow the flavors to blend together.

TOP TIP: Feel free to tweak the measurement of the recipes to your liking. The optional ingredients add another layer of flavor to the sauce- try them if you have them on hand.

This is a thick sauce. If you use it to flavor your meats, you can thin it out by adding a splash of water or more lemon juice.
